Two great songwriters are in the spotlight this week - Freddie Mercury and Alan Hull.

It’s 30 years since we lost the legendary Queen frontman at the age of just 45. Johnnie features a previously unheard interview piece, recorded a few months ago with the band’s guitarist Brian May, who talks candidly about Freddie, and tells how the band pulled together to help him through his final years.

There’s an incredible new ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ4 documentary that airs this week on the life of Alan Hull, described as Lindisfarne’s Geordie Genius. It’s presented and narrated by Tyneside’s latest music hero, Sam Fender, who’s here for a chat about the film, and discusses why he thinks Alan’s musical abilities have often been over-looked since he passed away. It's 50 years this month since the band released their acclaimed album Fog On The Tyne, so we’ll also hear from one of the founder members of Lindisfarne, drummer Ray Laidlaw, who's enlisted Sting, Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel, Mark Knopfler, and many other famous faces to help tell Alan’s tale.

Staying in the North East of England, this week’s One Of A Kind song features a folk trio from Gateshead, and we go back to 1971 with the latest entry into Johnnie’s Jukebox.
