Tom Grennan鈥檚 second album documents the break-up of Tom鈥檚 relationship of three years, and its aftermath. But Evering Road 鈥� named after the couple鈥檚 former home in Clapton, East London 鈥� is the polar opposite of a self-pitying break-up album. Instead, its 14 masterful, redemptive anthems form 鈥渁 sorry letter and a thank-you letter鈥� to Tom鈥檚 ex, as well as the soundtrack to your own universal euphoric escapism.

Although the album was completed weeks before lockdown, songs as comforting as 鈥楽omething Better鈥� and 鈥楲ittle Bit Of Love鈥� or the defiant holler of 鈥業f Only鈥� and 鈥楢men鈥� have the communal widescreen emotional impact to bring everyone together, even when crowds couldn鈥檛 happen.

鈥淚t鈥檚 an album that can help people out with their own situation,鈥� states Tom. 鈥淥nce it鈥檚 out in the world, these songs belong to other people, who can take them on. Once a song means something else to someone else, amazing! They鈥檝e created their own story. That helps them and me move on, and that鈥檚 what an album is for.鈥�

Tom admits 鈥淭here were demons around鈥� before the break-up. 鈥淚 was caught up in a web of stupidity and I had to leave, because I was doing her wrong. I was hurting her, and I was also hurting myself. I knew when I left it was best for both of us.鈥� The powerful video for 鈥楲ittle Bit Of Love鈥� sees Tom examine the toxic masculinity he鈥檚 trying to avoid. 鈥淭he album is about how I鈥檝e grown into a different person. The people I was hanging around with, the area I lived in, all these different influences led me into a bad territory. I was doing silly things and not thinking about anything. But I鈥檝e got my head screwed on now. I鈥檓 25, not a young kid anymore.鈥�

Tom鈥檚 gold-certified debut Lighting Matches was one of 2018鈥檚 Top 10 best-selling debuts.
