"Toothless by not meaningless." That's how the Chair of the new Trade and Agriculture Commission sums it up. Charlotte Smith speaks to Professor Lorand Bartels after the inaugural meeting of the new TAC - the independent body set up by the Government to look at UK Free Trade Agreements, assess their impact on food and farming and report to Parliament.

A paper published in Nature this year claimed marine sediments are the largest pool of organic carbon on the planet and a crucial reservoir for long-term storage. But bottom trawling along the seabed can disturb the sediments and release the carbon. So some scientists argue protecting the carbon-rich seabed is a potentially important nature-based solution to climate change.

And will organic farmers ever be able to give up ploughing? We gaze into our crystal balls.
