Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Anita Rani

Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek chat to Zoe about Eternals, Anita Rani looks at Britain by Beach and Zoe quizzes the QI Elves with more of your questions in the Why Workshop.

Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek chat to Zoe about Marvel's newest superhero epic, Eternals. The film tells of an immortal race of 10 super powered Celestials who have been secretly living on Earth for over 7,000 years and are charged with protecting the planet from their evil opposites, the predatory Deviants. The cast also includes Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani and Kit Harrington.

Anita Rani discusses her new Channel 4 series, Britain by Beach, where she travels across the UK to discover the remarkable secret history of Britain’s beaches. The first episode is set in Devon, the quintessential beach county of ice cream and cream teas. On the epic, three-mile long Slapton Sands, Anita discovers the hidden story of Exercise Tiger, when over 700 US servicemen died in a German attack during a D-Day rehearsal in spring 1944. Anita is one of the lead presenters on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Countryfile and also wowed audiences on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 with her natural dance ability and fearlessness.

Plus it’s The Why Workshop, and Zoe quizzes the QI Elves with more wonders and ponders, including your questions.

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

Every day’s a schoolday so here’s a quick tutorial, here’s a Beginner’s Guide to Making Enemies!  There are three very simple steps to making enemies, and this is guaranteed to work with any individual or any group.  First: believe everything you hear about them, without question.  Second: pass that on. It may be all lies, but pass it on.  Third, and most important, don’t speak to them.

I assure you it works every time.  People with a different hair colour, different religion, different postcode, from a different school, different sexuality, job, background, colour or ethnicity – if you hear anything bad, believe it.  And just tell lies about them, it’s doesn’t need to be enormous propaganda type lies, just pass on unpleasant half-truths or total rubbish.  But the most important thing is, do not speak to them. Because if you do, you might find that they’re not particularly different after all, or that they don’t do whatever it was they’re ‘well known’ for.  Worse still, you might even like them!  Jews and Jesuits, homosexuals and human rights advocates, muslims and migrants, blondes and bankers, politicians and protesters at Cop26, catholics and convicts, Baptists and benefit scroungers … Pick your minority, and follow the three steps!

It’s Guy Fawkes night this week.  Remember, remember the 5th of November…  I’m not sure that enough of us remember that his plot to blow up the king and Parliament was all about religious intolerance.  And here we are, centuries on, still with the religious and many other intolerances. How sad: I think we seem to have acquired just enough religion to hate one another but not quite enough to love each other.  Yet I do believe in a God of love, of acceptance, of tolerance; who cares for us all, and is especially grieved when the weakest and most vulnerable of his children are picked on. But instead of breaking down walls by blowing them up as Guy Fawkes tried to do, I reckon walls can be dismantled surprisingly easily; by not believing everything we’re told, not telling lies and by actually talking to these people who we think are so different. Except for Scots Presbyterian ministers…keep well clear of them, I mean, you know what they’re like…!
