Pilgrims, Smallholders and Seasavers
Mark Stephen and Euan McIlwraith with stories from the great outdoors.
Earlier this week Mark and Euan headed to East Lothian to meet up with a group of pilgrims walking the John Muir Way. The group come from a range of organisations and are walking to raise awareness of the climate and ecological crisis. We hear from some of those taking part as well as the organiser, Jonathan Baxter, who tells us the background to the project.
Euan also visits Musselburgh Lagoons. The lagoons were formed in 1964 and were used for the dumping of fly-ash from the nearby Cockenzie Power Station. This once industrial landscape is now a haven for lots of different birds as Euan hears from Shenaz Khimji from The Scottish Ornithologists' Club.
Mark meets smallholder Rosemary Champion to hear what will be happening at this weekend鈥檚 Scottish Smallholder Festival which is being held in Forfar.
Kathi Kamleitner is a travel blogger and podcaster originally from Austria who has been living in Scotland for several years now. She鈥檚 our Scotland Outdoors podcast guest this week and she tells Helen about her experiences of solo hiking in Scotland as a young woman.
We chat live to filmmakers Andrew O鈥橠onnell and Mark Taylor about the second series of their 成人快手 Scotland TV programme, Roaming in the Wild. The series sees them walking, camping and canoeing across the countryside, exploring what Scotland has to offer.
A huge stainless-steel whale arrived by barge in Dundee at the start of this week. It鈥檚 a permanent addition to the city and intended as a focal point for the developing waterfront. Mark went along to take a look and meet the artist behind it, Lee Simmons.
We continue our series of Celtic Conversations between Cornwall and Scotland in the run up to COP26. This week we hear from two young people who spend a lot of time involved in marine conservation, fifteen-year-old Caillin from Ullapool, and fourteen-year-old Elodie from Newquay on the north coast of Cornwall.
Euan has another mystery bird, this time with some literary connections.
