Sir Billy Connolly, Sir Tom Jones, Timoth茅e Chalamet and Zendaya

Sir Billy Connolly chats to Zoe about his autobiography, Windswept & Interesting. Sir Tom Jones shares his new single plus Timoth茅e Chalamet and Zendaya on their new film, Dune.

Sir Billy Connolly chats to Zoe about his first full-length memoir, Windswept & Interesting. Born in a tenement flat in Glasgow in 1942, orphaned by the age of 4, and a survivor of appalling abuse at the hands of his own family, Billy's life is a remarkable story of success against all the odds. Windswept and Interesting is Billy's story in his own words, stuffed full of hard-earned wisdom as well as countless digressions on fishing, farting and the joys of dancing naked.

Sir Tom Jones shares his new single, Not Dark Yet. Not Dark Yet is a song by Bob Dylan, recorded in January 1997 and released as the seventh track on his album, Time Out of Mind. This is the first of two new tracks that feature on Tom鈥檚 extended version of his album, Surrounded By Time. Tom is a huge fan of Bob Dylan, though he wasn鈥檛 impressed by Bob鈥檚 music when he first heard it in the mid-1960s. But then he heard Blowin鈥 in the Wind and he鈥檚 been a fan ever since.

And Timoth茅e Chalamet and Zendaya discuss starring in the epic science fiction film, Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Timoth茅e's breakthrough came in 2017 with his role as Elio Perlman in the coming-of-age romantic drama Call Me by Your Name, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor; at 22 years old, it made him the third-youngest nominee in the category. Zendaya's performance as a struggling, drug addict teenager in the HBO drama series, Euphoria, made her the youngest recipient of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Her film roles include The Greatest Showman and the superhero film Spider-Man: 成人快手coming and its sequels.

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

For many Hindus, tomorrow marks听the beginning of the month of Kartik, one of my favourite times of the year! It鈥檚 a festive period that includes Diwali, and so many other special days. One of the things I love the most about it is the daily ritual of offering a lamp or candle before the shrine 鈥 whether it鈥檚 a little altar on a kitchen shelf, or inside the sparkling sanctuary of a temple. I鈥檝e been to India at this time of year, where these traditions originate, and it鈥檚 wonderful too, but, I feel like the daily lamp offering is so much more precious in the northern hemisphere when it鈥檚 starting to get damp, cold and dark. Holding a small candle, feeling the warmth on my fingertips from the small flame, turning it in circles in the air, and making a daily prayer with love, is just something so special.

Many people offer their lamps in the evening when it鈥檚 more convenient, but at Bhaktivedanta Manor, my home temple in Hertfordshire, they would always do it at 7.30 in the morning. I have so many memories of rushing there before school and college, the birds just starting to sing before sunrise, bumping into friends taking off their shoes at the door and entering the dark, quiet hallway of the temple together. The shrine room would also be dimly lit, and if I was a few minutes late, I鈥檇 hear around 200 voices already singing the first lines of the Kartik prayer.听

People would queue up in their work clothes and school uniforms to offer their lamp, their faces illuminated by both the lights as well as the love that had gotten them out of bed that morning, at least an hour earlier than usual, to come to the temple before the start of a busy day.听听It鈥檚 the perfect Breakfast Show festival鈥!听For me this month听is听about saying: I love you even when it鈥檚 not convenient, I love you even when I have to lose some sleep, I love you even if you don鈥檛 always give me what I want, I love you even when I don鈥檛 always understand you 鈥 I believe love is all of these things, and also 鈥 a small flame turning in circles on a dark, chilly, October morning.
