Bryan Adams and Phil Manzanera
Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music - and currently collaborating with Tim Finn - picks the Tracks Of My Years. Plus there's some brand new music from Bryan Adams.
Ken gives the first play anywhere of the brand new single from Bryan Adams.
Phil Manzanera, famously of Roxy Music and currently collaborating with former Split Enz and Crowded House star Tim Finn, chooses the Tracks Of My Years all this week.
Phil successfully auditioned to be in Roxy Music almost 50 years ago, and was part of the classic line-up alongside Bryan Ferry, Andy Mackay and Paul Thompson. But Phil has always had his own projects in parallel to the band, and over the years has collaborated with musicians including Godley and Creme, David Byrne, David Gilmour, and now, Tim Finn.
Phil and Tim have recently released their joint album 'Caught By The Heart', which features music covering a range of styles and genres: Latin, rock, pop, prog, reggae and chamber-classical. It's a true lockdown album, with both musicians working in their home studios some 12,000 thousand miles apart. 'Caught By The Heart' comes 45 years after Phil and Tim first worked together, when Tim’s band Split Enz, supported Phil’s band, Roxy Music, on their first Australian tour. This led to Phil producing the Split Enz album ‘Second Thoughts’ when they came to the UK the following year.
Over the subsequent years, their paths would cross periodically, with Tim singing and writing songs for Phil’s ‘K- Scope’ and ‘Southern Cross’ albums, and Phil doing guest spot with Tim in the UK.
The first two tracks Phil has picked come from Elvis Presley and The Shadows.
Ken also has a new Record and Album Of The Week and your dedications in The Love Song. If you want to contact the show, just email - ken.bruce@bbc.co.uk.
