The cost of keeping a secret, the importance of gratitude and the Take One Action Film Festival
As the Take One Action Film Festival returns to Scottish screens this week, Cathy talks to Emily Munro, the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive curator about her documentary Living Proof: A Climate Story, which explores Scotland’s role in the global climate crisis and our complex relationship with our natural resources.
Reporter Bob Dickson meets artist Jonathan Baxter to learn more about a year-long community walking project in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh that aims to help participants engage with nature, develop their artistic skills, and improve their ability to be mindful by joining a monthly walk (conducted in almost complete silence) through Little France Country Park.
Author Simon Ingram joins Cathy to discuss his book ‘The Black Ridge: A Journey Amongst Skye’s Cuillin Ridge’, which explores this mysterious mountain range from its geological birth through to the pioneers, myths and monsters associated with it.
Following the success of recent Amazon drama Nine Perfect Strangers which charts a residential group therapy programme, set in the US, Cathy talks to therapist Kim Armstrong and Marion Inglis, who runs peer support groups for new parents in Edinburgh, about the strengths and challenges of group therapy sessions.
Secrets can range from the most trivial of information to matters of life and death, but why are they so powerful and what kind of burden do they put on those asked to keep the secret? Marion Inglis and Professor Sir Cary Cooper, Professor of Psychology and Health at the University of Manchester, join Cathy to discuss the power of secrets.
Tuesday marks World Gratitude Day. Cathy talks to Professor Cary Cooper and Lord Jim Wallace, the current Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church Of Scotland, about why gratitude plays such an important part in our personal relationships and in how we interact with wider society.
