"It's hoaching with trout today!"

'Come on wee trout, come on!" says Sean. "Who's coming into my wee house?'

"I thought of a word this morning," Sean says. "I don't think you, Janet or Emma, would have ever used this word... Hoaching!"

Emma nods.

"Emma's heard of it! It took me back to my childhood when we would go 'fishing' in the burn that ran down the back of our house in Rosemount, down through Tinney's Field where we played and the Glen, and there would be the odd trout would come down from the reservoir. Sometimes there would be a lot of trout and your mates would say, 'Ah, the burn's hoaching with trout the day!' You never caught any. You tried to get them out with your hand."

"It's called 'ginlin'," says John from Carn.

"Never heard of that," Sean says. "What were you doing last night, Coyle? 'I was ginling!'"

"I remember the big boys when we were going fishing. They would lie down on their belly and put their hands in the water, and they would tickle the fish. They would get their hands under the trout's belly, and say 'Come on wee trout, come on! Who's coming into my wee house?' And then, whoosh! They would throw the trout up onto the bank. I could never do it."
