Anita Rani, the writer and broadcaster, tells Zoe about her memoir. Joe Lycett, the comedian and presenter has news on his UK tour.
Anita Rani, the writer and broadcaster, tells Zoe about her memoir. In her book, The Right Sort of Girl, Anita reveals how she managed to navigate life by learning to adapt herself to all kinds of situations she did not quite fit into. Anita grew up in Bradford with a chaotic Punjabi family, surrounded by fights and fury as well as love, laughter and fantastic food. The memoir also tells the story of how she escaped through school, university and rave culture to rise to become one of Britain’s favourite presenters. In February, she joined Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, hosting it on Fridays and Saturdays. Anita is also a regular presenter on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One's Countryfile.
Joe Lycett, the presenter and comedian, has a new tour called More, More, More! How Do You Lycett? How Do You Lycett? and it finds (the artist formerly known as Hugo Boss) Joe Lycett exploring his love of art, his passion for gardening, toying with companies on Instagram, and the perils of online trolls. Joe has received a range of recognition for his work to date, including two Royal Television Society Awards. Joe also regularly performs on and hosts Live at the Apollo, Taskmaster and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
Jay Flynn returns with another round of his Virtual Radio Quiz where he tests the team on their general knowledge to see who comes out on top.
Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, quizzes, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!
There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought
Well, sorry if I sound a bit of a wreck this morning. It was carnage in our house last night watching the big game. I’m amazed I have any voice left.  Our TV took a verbal battering. Pity our Scottish next-door neighbour.Â
I was already a bit worried about how I’d sound. I’ve got my new braces in. My front teeth haven’t looked properly right since school.  Not since Phil Jones accidentally knocked one out with a makeshift LightSabre. I still remember the sickening crunch on my incisor as ‘Darth Jonesy’ caught me - demanding that I embrace the Darkside.  There was no 50p under my pillow from the Tooth Fairy that night.  Mum was fuming.
And so I’m finally - apprehensively - getting my teeth sorted. Spending hours with my mouth propped open in that dreaded chair. Thank heavens, then, for my dentist. No matter what orthodontic sufferings I face, he’s a model of calm reassurance. I wish he’d been with me last night. He’s a natural comforter, confidence builder and nerve steadier. Ideal character traits in his most fear-inducing of professions. He goes to huge lengths to relax me before embarking on another oral probe. Even letting me choose the background music. Oasis. Obviously.
I think those of a calm and reassuring nature like him are such a valuable gift. Not least in times of personal crisis, or when we feel bereft of confidence or self-esteem. My life has been enriched by seeking the company of such peaceable characters. They certainly help my faith journey along. Be it with a wise and soothing word or heartfelt prayer.
Before his death, Jesus reassured his own anxious friends with the words: ‘My peace I leave with you.’ Presumably for their own inner comfort - but also as a gift to pass on. It’s what I strive to do when getting alongside someone scared or distressed. I’m definitely not a natural, though. Being so loud and excitable makes my company far from calming at times. But I am learning. When to speak and when to be quiet. The sacred art of just being available.
Seeing my dentist at work has helped. I’ve got another appointment with him soon. Soundtracked by Wonderwall no doubt. All will be well - unless the drill comes out. There’s still nothing reassuring about that sound, Zoe.
