Johnnie’s celebrating 4th July with American Classics and other great music this week.

His guest is Tony Hadley, the voice of Spandau Ballet, who formed in North London in 1979.

Tony saw almost every great band play live during the vibrant eras of Punk and the New Wave that followed in its wake, and he’ll be choosing three songs from the decade that mean a lot to him, plus chatting about memories of his schooldays and teenage years, all spent obsessing over ‘70s music from all genres.

Throughout the show, there’ll be a sprinkling of American Classics from some of the finest bands and artists to mark Independence Day this weekend, all handpicked by Johnnie.

Loyal listener Madeleine Benfield-White picks a soul classic as the latest record for addition into Johnnie’s Jukebox.

You’ll struggle to keep up with the lyrics to the 1974 oddity that Mary Lynn Mills has chosen as this week’s One Of A Kind song.

Plus there are more birthdays and key events under the spotlight as we take a look through This Week In Music.
