Moby, iconic dance music pioneer, chooses the Tracks of My Years. Born Richard Hall in Harlem, New York, Moby has sold 20 million records worldwide and is considered one of the most important dance music figures of the early nineties, helping bring dance music to the mainstream in the UK and America. He's just released a new album 'Reprise' featuring the new single 'Natural Blues' with Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah. This latest album sees Moby revisiting musical highlights from his notable 30 year career. Together with the Budapest Art Orchestra, he has re-envisioned some of his most recognisable rave classics and anthems with new arrangements for orchestra and acoustic instruments. There's an eclectic array of guests including Alice Skye, Apollo Jane, Kris Kristofferson and Skylar Grey. The seeds for the project were sown when Moby was invited to take part in his first ever classical collaboration - a live concert of his music at Walt Disney Concert Hall with his friend Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2018.
Last month also saw the release of 'Moby Doc' a surrealist biographical documentary narrated by Moby, with the artist reflecting on his turbulent personal life and music, from underground punk bands to chart-topping solo artist, and from struggling addict to vegan activist. It features interviews with David Lynch and David Bowie along with concert footage, a blend of re-enactments, interviews, and archival footage.
The first two tracks Moby has chosen come from Creedence Clearwater Revival and Diana Ross. Ken also has your daily love song dedications and another round of the PopMaster Music Quiz. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
