Moby picks his Track of My Years
Ken Bruce talks to dance music pioneer Moby about his picks for Tracks Of My Years and the release of his album "Reprise" and documentary film "Moby Doc".
Ken Bruce talks to Moby, iconic dance music pioneer as he chooses his Tracks of My Years. Born Richard Hall in Harlem, New York, Moby has sold 20 million records worldwide and is considered one of the most important dance music figures of the early nineties., helping bring dance music to the mainstream in the UK and America. He's just released a new album 'Reprise' featuring the new single 'Natural Blues' with Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah. This latest album sees Moby revisiting musical highlights from his notable 30 year career. Together with the Budapest Art Orchestra, he has re-envisioned some of his most recognisable rave classics and anthems with new arrangements for orchestra and acoustic instruments. There's an eclectic array of guests including Alice Skye, Apollo Jane, Kris Kristofferson and Skylar Grey. The seeds for the project were sown when Moby was invited to take part in his first ever classical collaboration - a live concert of his music at Walt Disney Concert Hall with his friend Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2018.
Last month also saw the release of 'Moby Doc' a surrealist biographical documentary narrated by Moby, with the artist reflecting on his turbulent personal life and music, from underground punk bands to chart-topping solo artist, and from struggling addict to vegan activist. It features interviews with David Lynch and David Bowie along with concert footage, a blend of re-enactments, interviews, and archival footage.
HIs picks include music revolutionary songs such as "White Lines (Don't Do It" by DJ Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel, Inner City's "Good Life" and Faith Evans' "Love Like This".
