It’s your weekly journey back to this remarkable decade with Johnnie as your trusted guide.
Today, music legend Eddy Grant joins him from Barbados for a chat and some top tunes.
Eddy’s been a pioneer in music over the past six decades, beginning with his time fronting The Equals in the late Sixties, through anthems like the much-sampled ‘Walking On Sunshine’ in the Seventies, to huge hits like ‘Electric Avenue’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance’ in the Eighties. He’s still going strong with his most-recent album ‘Plaisance,’ which was named after the town in Guyana where he was born. So Johnnie will be finding out what he’s up to now, and hearing about some of the superstar names he’s worked with at his famous Blue Wave studios over the years.
Steve Taylor in Hertfordshire picks the next entry to be installed into Johnnie’s Jukebox, and it’s the first time this particular artist has found a place in there amongst the other 404 choices.
We hit the highway for another One Of A Kind record, chosen by Sounds of the 70s listener Dave Bedall.
Featured birthdays This Week In Music include two amazing soulful ladies, a distinctive American singer-songwriter, and the man who has the no.1 album today in 2021 but has been a regular fixture on the charts since he was a teenager in 1977.
Plus we round off the show with two live In Concert recordings from a couple of other superstars who are both also celebrating birthdays this week.
