Chris Martin and Michael Ball
Chris Martin chats to Zoe about new music from Coldplay. Michael Ball performs live from the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Maida Vale studios.
Chris Martin chats to Zoe about new music from Coldplay. The band have said that new single Higher Power is a song that arrived on a little keyboard and a bathroom sink at the start of 2020. It was produced by Max Martin who the band call 'a true wonder of the universe'. Coldplay are one of the biggest bands in the world and have sold over 100 million records, toured the globe and performed at the biggest festivals on the planet. They've won nine Brit Awards and seven Grammys.
Michael Ball performs live from the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Maida Vale studios with music from his new album, We Are More Than One. Michael also has an exclusive cover for the show and a classic track from his back catalogue that will get everyone singing along. After a number 1 selling solo album in 2019 and Christmas album with best friend Alfie Boe, Michael Ball returns for a brand new album for 2021. We Are More Than One sees Michael exploring song-writing further after months in lockdown forced him to wonder why he was waiting to pursue something he enjoyed so much. Teaming up with songwriters Amy Wadge and Liz Rose the album sees Michael looking within himself for an album even more personal than the last. After learning how to write and record remotely, every track on this record has a story to tell.

Pause For Thought
There’s lots of brilliant things about what I do for a living and one of them is I get to go to a lot of parties. And Zoe, I am a big fan of a party, particularly a buffet. Over the last 12 months, along with so many other things, I’ve really missed the ‘dos’ that happen after the Christenings, weddings and funerals. It’s not so much the damp quiche and nibbles I’ve missed but rather the chat and the laughter that happens over the trays of sausage rolls. I find folk are far more relaxed once the formalities are over and we all have a bit of beige pastry in our hand.
Ìý
It’s particularly the buffets after funerals that I’ve missed the most, because some of the best parties I’ve been to have been wakes. Which is why when I did a funeral for a family remembering their lovely Granny recently I was chuffed to bits to see that a global pandemic wouldn’t stop them from giving her proper send off and providing refreshment. Now don’t worry, no rules were broken. You see, waiting for us when we emerged into the spring sunshine of the crematorium car park was a local sandwich van, with hot roast pork sandwiches for us all, individually wrapped in paper bags to eat in our cars, a takeaway wake. It was perfect.
Ìý
Eating together can unite people like nothing else. In the communion service, central to the Christian faith, the words Jesus, said when he ate with his friends, are remembered, ‘Though we are many we are one body because we all share in one bread’. Bonding over barbeques, perched on picnic blankets and under gazebos in freezing cold pub gardens, when we eat together, something wonderful happens, the gap between us is narrowed and our differences somehow don’t seem so different, after all.Ìý

I took my takeaway wake back to my car and munched my butty with glee, and I as I did I looked at the driver in the car next to me, she had a goody bag too and as we sat on our own, with our buffets for one, we both grinned like Cheshire cats, briefly united over the comfort to be found in catering and solace in our sandwiches.Ìý
