Episode 7 of 20

A beloved gramophone, which reminds the owner of her music-loving grandad, and a old slide projector belonging to a photography enthusiast are among today’s transformations.

Sabrina Grant presents as objects arrive at the workshop – unused but too precious to be thrown out. A team of expert crafters are ready to transform them into contemporary and functional items.

Michelle and Carl have brought a stunning 1930s gramophone to the workshop. It belonged to Michelle’s grandad, who loved reggae and the music of the Rat Pack – as well as gramophones. He had a collection of nearly 20. This one was always Michelle’s favourite, as well as being a connection to her grandad. It isn’t used anymore, however, so she would love it to be transformed into something functional. Metalsmith John and woodwork specialist Daisy offer two very different transformations for the couple to choose from.

Kate brings an old slide projector into the workshop, evidence of her obsession with photographic equipment. She bought it for two pounds at a car boot sale and has loved it ever since. But it’s just sitting by her fireplace, without proper use. Shelley’s first love might be wood, but the carpentry expert’s skills are wide ranging. She has an idea that will beautifully complement the projector’s metal body.

And an intriguing item gives interior design craftsman Rob a challenge. It’s an old steamship lamp – one of a pair that would’ve signalled the port and starboard sides of the vessel. It was given to Denni by her father when she was very young and holds special memories. Rob has a plan that will keep the lamp centre stage but transformed into a completely different object.
