Billy Monger, Tiny Happy People Families and Maximum Music Monday
Racing driver Billy Monger tells Zoe all about his 140 mile Comic Relief challenge. Plus we meet another one of the Tiny Happy People Families.
Billy Monger, the British racing driver and double amputee tells Zoe all about his Comic Relief Challenge. Billy will walk, cycle and kayak 140 miles in four days to raise money for the charity. Billy was critically injured in an accident in 2017 aged 16, but was back behind the wheel within a year. Before training began in December, he had not ridden a bike since his accident and had not walked more than 6km (3.7 miles) at a time. Monger returned to racing in 2018 after appealing to motorsport's international governing body, the FIA, to change its regulations restricting disabled drivers. He won the Euroformula series Pau Grand Prix in 2019.
Earlier this month Zoe launched Tiny Happy People Families on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show and we've now met four of the families! With an introduction from JB Gill, today we are revealing and meeting the final family taking part in the project! In collaboration with 成人快手 Radio 2 and The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Tiny Happy People Families launched on Monday 19th October 2020. The project鈥檚 aim is to find five families due to have a baby in January 2021 and to follow their journey from birth through to 5 years old. This all forms part of a wider 成人快手 campaign called Tiny Happy People, which is a five year initiative to support parents and carers in developing the language and communication skills of their 0-4 year old children.
Zoe plays three disco classics from her personal collection in the Disco Ball at 8.30! Along with Adam Porter on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners, and more music that you can shake a glitterball at!
There's also a daily Pause For Thought and listeners on the line, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought
I know I am a little bit late in the game, but I鈥檓 just learning the art of adulting.听
As a child no one ever told me when I grow up, I would have to learn to treat myself like my own child. I would have to make sure I go to bed on time,听 take my vitamins, drink water and exercise, but the most useful principle in adulting听 I have learnt so far is that there is always rice at home! And this has been valuable in curbing my spending at restaurants and on takeaways.
However, the part of adulting that is taking me a little bit longer to get to grips with is being kind to myself. Like many people, there is a mean girl living in my head, and she is relentless when it comes to criticising myself.听
For just under a year I have been placed in a position of formal leadership, and it has been scary, my biggest fear is that I would not be able to support the people who I am responsible for. Throughout this time the mean girl in my head kept telling me I was crazy for accepting the challenge and that it would only end in disaster.
In order to avert disaster, I decided to do my own appraisal, I arranged for my team to anonymously give me feedback through someone more senior than me on the project.
The day of my appraisal arrived, my palms were sweating, my belly was churning and I could barely breathe.听 My colleague said okay, let鈥檚 start with the negative.
Muneera does not realise how much she has supported听 us in this time,
Muneera is great, as a manager, yet she is very self-critical听
I wonder if she knows she is doing a good job听
All this time I thought my work was below standard, and I was sure my team will tell me so, but actually, the biggest thing I had done wrong was indulging in the negative thoughts in my head.
Imam Juluddin Rumi 13th Century poet and scholar said:
鈥淭he art of knowing is knowing what to ignore鈥
As tempted as I am, the newest lesson I am learning is to ignore the mean girl in my head, regardless of how loud she is.
