Episode 9
The RNLI volunteers search for a missing kitesurfer, race to rescue a father and daughter being swept out to sea and try to save all nine lives of a casualty in the Thames.
Last year, the lifeboat crews and lifeguards around the UK and Ireland raced to the aid of over 9,400 people, but all the volunteers know that, when the pager goes off, not every shout will end in a successful rescue.
In the Solent, one the busiest stretches of water in the UK, reports come in of a missing kite surfer. The crew of Lymington lifeboat station launch and start searching, but as the hours pass, they begin to fear the worst.
Meanwhile, 20 miles to the west and at the end of one of the hottest days of the summer, the Poole crew are called out to try and save a father and daughter from drowning as they are swept out to sea. And at Chiswick, one of the few RNLI stations with a crew on permanent standby 24/7, an unusual casualty in the river Thames leaves the crew attempting to save not just one but nine lives.
