This week DEFRA released it's Agriculture Transition Plan - which lays out a timeline for introducing a new system of farm payments post Brexit. Under the new Environmental Land Management Schemes - or ELMS - farmers will no longer get paid per acre of land, but for the benefits they bring to society through things like cleaner air and water, better soil, wildlife habitats, enhancing landscapes and preventing flooding.
