Taylor Swift, Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, chooses the Tracks of My Years in an interview first broadcast in 2011. At the time she had recently released her third studio album 'Speak Now' written entirely by herself as the follow up to 'Fearless' and described as a loose concept album about confessions. Earlier this year Taylor released her eighth studio album 'Folklore' which marked a departure from the upbeat pop sound of the singer's previous albums to mellow tunes driven by piano and guitar. It was all written in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and produced by Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. The album sold two million copies in its first week globally, 1.3 million of which were sold on its first day. 'Folklore' reached number one in the UK, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland and several other countries.
The Country and Pop superstar was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1989 and spent her early years on her family's Christmas tree farm in nearby Wyomissing. Her grandmother had been a professional opera singer and Taylor soon followed in her musical footsteps. By the age of 10 she was singing at a variety of local events, including fairs and contests. She sang 'The Star Spangled Banner' at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game at the age of 11 and began writing her own songs and learning guitar a year later. To pursue her music career, she often visited Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital where she co-wrote songs and continued to perform. She calls it her home now and tries to get back there as much as possible.
The next two tracks Taylor has chosen come from Tom Petty and James Blunt. Ken also has the daily love song and PopMaster. If you'd like to get in touch with the show email Ken.Bruce@bbc.co.uk
