'Success is as dangerous as failure’ says Alan McGee when interviewed just before his 40th birthday in 2000. He talks about growing up in Cathcart, the son of a panel beater and shop assistant and feeling like the awkward geeky weird guy at school. Not feeling like he ‘amounted to zilch’ gave him something to kick against and had a positive effect on a drive for success, most notably when his record label, Creation Records signed Oasis and made them and him multi millionaires. His cocaine habit was legendary ‘whatever was on the table I would snort it’ but as he tells Edi it nearly killed him and he’s changed his lifestyle.
