Most of the animal hides produced in the UK as a by-product of the meat industry are export to be processed into leather in China or Italy. The UK now only has 23 tanneries still working. We hear from a Welsh beef farmer who is selling luxury handbags made from the hides of her own cattle.
And black mitchum mint was grown in this country until the Second World War when the mint fields were cleared for food production. We visit a farm in Hampshire has revived it and perfected peppermint production.
