There’s hope for all of us who’ve dreamt of writing a novel as we’ll be chatting to a man who hadn’t penned anything more complex than a shopping list since high school and is now a finalist for Scotland’s most prestigious crime writing award. That’s Andrew James Greig and his devilishly complex Highland crime novel Whirligig.
Janice speaks to Gareth Nicholls and writer John Morton about Denouement at Edinburgh’s Traverse, a thrilling (and tremendously NSFW) new play that has beaten the venue closures by being turned into an audio drama.
There’s powerful new poetry from one of Scotland’s greatest writers - AL Kennedy. She’ll be discussing her artistic reaction to the events of summer 2020, starting with the death of George Floyd and investigating both whiteness and the legacy of slavery in Scotland.
And in 2020 it’s important to remember the words of deep thinkers Bill & Ted. ‘Be excellent to each other’ and ‘party on dude’. While the latter has to be followed in accordance to the current laws on gatherings, critics Graeme Virtue and Amy Taylor will be looking at the legacy of the loveable slackers and why they’re reuniting for new film Bill & Ted Face The Music. Alongside that, we’ll be considering The Karate Kid reunion series Cobra Kai.
Plus, we hear from Jayne Moorby, a woman from Cumbria who got more than she bargained for when she tweeted asking for suggestions for a Scottish road trip playlist. Thousands of song suggestions later and she’ll run out of road before she runs out of tunes. And that gives us our Topical Tune choice for the day – perfect tracks for a road trip.
