Laurence The Painter's daddy was a plumber and used to take him along as a plumber's mate and his father was given ham and English mustard in his sandwich. On a Friday he would add chips to the sandwich too.
Did only plumbers and electricians have mates? Sean was a spark's mate in Birmingham.
Iris says you had cheese in your piece but if you had a bit more money you'd have tomato too. And if you were really well off, you would have salmon.
Would a good looking young man still be referred to as 'a vision'?
