James's most famous creation is Adam Dalgliesh - an urbane, highly intelligent policeman who also writes poetry, and brings a cool authority to solving murder. Johny and his guests discuss the qualities of P D James's writing, the strength of her plotting and her lasting influence on the crime fiction genre.

Also on the programme, Akwaeke Emezi talks about The Death of Vivek Oji. Set in Nigeria, it's a novel about sexuality, spirituality and change. Akwaeke discusses the challenges of writing a story in which the central character's death is revealed on the very first page.
