Capturing the nation in conversation to build a unique picture of our lives today and preserve it for future generations.
Fi Glover presents a weekly edition of the programme on the shared experience of being in lockdown and beyond.
In this edition strangers share their experience of being part of close families and communities and of coping with loss in these challenging times; compare notes on running a rural pub which will be opening at the weekend, and running an Indian restaurant in the heart of Leicester as the city embarks on the first local lockdown in the UK; and on the joys of pursuing a shared passion for embroidery. And we catch-up with sisters on how Covid 19 is stretching and deepening the sisterly bond in unexpected ways.
The Listening Project is a Radio 4 initiative that offers a snapshot of contemporary Britain in which people across the UK volunteer to have a conversation. The
conversations are being gathered across the UK by teams of producers from local and national radio stations who facilitate each encounter. Every conversation lasts up to an hour, and is then edited to extract the key moments of connection between the participants. Most of the unedited conversations are being archived by the British Library and used to build up a collection of voices capturing a unique portrait of the UK in this decade of the millennium.
