01/06/20 - Fishing negotiations, farmers called John and wildlife on farms

This week's Brexit talks will be dominated by fishing, with the UK negotiator, David Frost, warning it would be ‘very difficult’ to reach an agreement by the end of the month.

Brexit talks this week will be dominated by fishing. Last week the UK negotiator David Frost warned it would be ‘very difficult’ to reach agreement on fishing by the end of this month. The UK maintains that after Brexit it should be treated like any other independent coastal state and take part in annual negotiations on access to waters and quotas. The EU wants rights to UK waters and wants to link an agreement on fishing to other trade issues. We ask the fishing industry if and how they would be willing to compromise.

This week we're focusing on wildlife on farms. There is perhaps a natural tension between farming and wildlife, but for many years environmental stewardship schemes have paid farmers to work in a more environmentally friendly way. We ask how that will change as the old subsidy system is phased out.

We visit a farming family in Cornwall where every man is called John.

And after 10 weeks of working from home, the Farming Today team share their bloopers!!
