Good morning. It was on this day in 1966 that the 成人快手 announced plans to start broadcasting television programmes in colour. When the change took effect the following year, it was transformational, but perhaps its appeal was no surprise. We humans have been trying to add colour to our creations ever since the earliest cave paintings, and the use of dyes like indigo, woad and murex goes back thousands of years. I well remember one of our sons painting himself blue all over with face paint when his class were learning about warriors in Roman Gaul! And when Alexander the Great conquered Persia around 330 BCE, he found purple robes in the capital's treasury that would have been worth millions today.
Perhaps we love colour so much because we are surrounded by it wherever we look in the world of nature. And yet Jesus reminds us that even Solomon, the great king of Israel with his legendary riches, wasn鈥檛 able to have robes which matched the beauty of the common flowers that grow wild in the field.聽
We may spend much time and effort marvelling at the beauty that we see around us, but God also commands us to be wise and faithful stewards of the world which he has given us. Advances in technology may constantly present us with new opportunities to capture in more depth the nuances of colour which are contained in creation, But it would be sad if we were to lose some of the stunning variety of the natural world by failing to care for it as we should.
God of light and beauty, we praise you for the gift of human creativity, and also for the glory of your colourful creation. Help us to be wise stewards of it, so future generations may continue to be inspired by its beauty, Amen.
