This week Adam considers the giant nuclear powerhouse at the very heart of our solar system. Without the Sun, life on Earth wouldn鈥檛 exist. It bathes our planet in heat and light; it creates our days and nights, our seasons and our years; and for centuries it's been a source of fascination for astronomers. Over the past century we鈥檝e come to understand a lot more about how the Sun began, how it works and how it affects our planet. Yet in a lot of respects we鈥檙e still in the dark.

Adam talks to astronomy journalist and author Colin Stuart whose new book 'Rebel Star' explores our quest to solve the great mysteries of the Sun: what we DO know about it - and what questions we鈥檙e still asking about the super-massive, super-hot enigma just 93 million miles away.

We also hear from Dr. Huw Morgan from Aberystwyth University who uses solar eclipses to explore the question of why the Sun's corona - its outer layer - is so hot. And we meet Prof. Stuart Irvine from Swansea University's Centre for Solar Energy Research who's developing ultra-thin solar cells to power satellites.
