Spiritual reflection to start the day with Bob Fyffe of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland.

Script
Good Morning.
Scott died 15 months ago. It was sudden and shocking. In such situations the first days are raw and especially difficult for close loved-ones, when making any sense of anything can seem a distant possibility. Over the last months the loss of a close and much loved friend has for me, passed into a more gentle remembering, although there remain unexpected moments of pain as a memory of a past event rips the healing wound.
I have reflected often on the experience and realise that this loss is part of the human condition daily, for many thousands of people. It can be through a health crisis such as Scott鈥檚, through tragic circumstances such as those whose lives were suddenly cut short when their plane was mistakenly shot down outside Teheran Airport, or indeed through wider conflict as a combatant or as a refugee caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The common factor in each situation is that it is unplanned, and those who receive the news are unprepared. The opportunity to say what needed to be said, the opportunity to heal what needed to be healed, or simply to start afresh together. These are the broken threads that tie together into an often unacknowledged garment of unanswerable questions and thoughts. It is a garment which over time can cease to be a burden and instead become a robe of memory and warmth.

Compassionate God, treasure those who won鈥檛 come home today. Give them peace in a place with you. Enfold those who feel the deep hurt of sudden loss and bereavement and make them know they are held in our prayers and your love. Amen
