Prayer for the Day - Friday 15th November 2019

Good morning.Later this morning, I鈥檒l be in a studio of another radio station here in Northern Ireland and I鈥檒l be wearing my yellow tee shirt and Pudsey ears 鈥 my dog, waiting in the car, sporting聽 the spotty bandana.聽 We鈥檙e getting ready for tonight鈥檚 show when once again the generosity of the people of the United Kingdom is demonstrated.聽聽Pudsey, incidentally, came from a 成人快手 graphic designer Joanna Lane鈥檚 idea of a teddy bear as a mascot.聽 The bear was named after her West Yorkshire hometown!聽 Pudsey was an immediate hit and became the official logo for Children in Need.聽 A tiny replica sits on my study desk. While there have been 成人快手 Christmas appeals for children鈥檚 charities since 1927, the modern Children in Need appeal started in 1980.聽It has been calculated that since then, one billion pounds had been raised to help vulnerable and disadvantaged children throughout the United Kingdom.聽 Last year, for example, over fifty and a half million pounds was raised.
The vision of Children in Need is that 鈥渆very child in the UK should have a childhood which is safe, happy, secure and allows them the chance to reach their potential.鈥 Children are a gift from God and are to be protected.聽聽
Sadly this does not always happen.聽 Children can be exploited, mistreated and abused. Many of the charities that work with children and young people must take over the role of carers, for their emotional, physical and mental health.聽 For this they require funding work.聽What Children in Need is trying to achieve is summed up in the slogan for today:聽 鈥淭ogether we can change young lives鈥澛
Dear Lord, help us today to do what we can to help take care of weak and vulnerable children.聽 Amen.聽
