The PSNI is treating the burning of flags and banners on a bonfire in the Bogside last night as a 'hate incident'. Union flags and banners in support of the parachute regiment and Soldier F were burned. The DUP said it had complained about the items and asked for them to be removed.
The police said they will continue to 'gather evidence'. But there was also plenty to celebrate in the area. In a separate event: The Feile hosted its showpiece Festival of Fire in the Bogside with a procession of light led by young people to the foot of the Walls.
