Gary Davies sits in for Ken Bruce with another round of the world famous PopMaster music quiz. There's also the daily love song, record and album of the week and Tracks of My Years with Heather Small, which was recorded with Ken Bruce.
Heather Small, British soul singer and former lead singer of the band M People, is choosing the Tracks of My Years with music from Dorothy Moore and Maze (Frankie Beverly). Her debut solo album 'Proud' was released in 2000 and the title song was later adopted as the official theme for the successful London 2012 Olympic bid, She was also a contestant in ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One's Strictly Come Dancing back in 2008. Heather, who grew up on a West London council estate, joined her first group, Hot House, while she was still a teenager. After a chance meeting with Manchester DJ Mike Pickering, formerly of Quando Quango, Heather and her distinctive voice helped to sell over 10 million albums worldwide singing with the group M People. They had considerable success with songs such as "Moving On Up", "One Night In Heaven" and "Search for the Hero". Small has said that her major influence has been singer Elkie Brooks. In 1997, Heather performed on the "Perfect Day" record alongside a wide range of artists including Tom Jones and Lou Reed. The song was the official 1997 Children in Need charity release. It sold over a million copies and was the UK's number one single for three weeks, in two separate spells. This August Heather will be performing at Rewind North and Rewind South Festivals. The hugely popular ‘80's and beyond’ festival returns this year with Bryan Ferry, Foreigner, Michael Bolton, Four Tops, Thin Lizzy and Gloria Gaynor headlining across three sites. Lulu, Grandmaster Flash, Bananarama, The Stranglers, Belinda Carlisle, Lisa Stansfield, and Martin Kemp are some of the other music stars joining.
