Grace Carter, the UK singer-songwriter performs live in the Radio 2 Piano Room with music from her EP, Why Her Not Me. Grace grew up in North West London in Kensal Rise before moving to Brighton when she was nine. She took her formative musical inspirations to school, performing odes to Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ at primary school live auditions, but it was the later ballads of female singer songwriters like Alicia Keys and Adele that made her want to sing out her experiences. Outside her room, her musical education came via a local gospel church choir in her school, which she attended twice a week. She began songwriting during her school days, and at the age of fourteen was already performing her own material in public. One year later, Grace had converted her bedroom into a makeshift recording studio and when she reached Music College she taught herself the piano by watching YouTube videos. Grace has gone on to support Dua Lipa, Haim and Rag'n'Bone Man on tour.
Jessie Buckley, the actress and musician whose latest film Wild Rose sees her on a quest to become a country music star, picks the Tracks of My Years. The film sees Jessie star opposite Julie Walters in the role of Rose-Lynn, a woman who is fresh out of jail and has two young children and she is desperate to get out of Glasgow and make it as a country singer in Nashville. Irish-born RADA graduate Jessie’s previous performances include starring as Princess Marya in ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ hit-adaptation of Tolstoy’s epic novel War And Peace and starring opposite Tom Hardy in historic drama series Taboo.
Plus Ken reveals another artist performing at this year's Proms in the Park 2019 in London's Hyde Park.
Ken's got another round of the legendary PopMaster music quiz and your dedications with today's love song. There's also the record and album of the week.
