Nitrogen fertiliser reduction, the public on farms, circadian rhythms of plants
Charlotte Smith asks Guy Smith from the National Farmers' Union if farming can achieve zero net emissions by 2040.
As part of the week on climate change Charlotte Smith speaks to Guy Smith from the National Farmers' Union about their pledge to achieve zero net emissions from farming by 2040 and asks what has to happen to achieve that target. Nancy Nicolson has been to the James Hutton Institute to find out how they hope to help reduce the use of nitrogen fertilisers. Bekka Corrie-Close farms Long-Horned Cattle in The Lake District and she tells Charlotte why it's so important for the public to close gates on farms and pick up their dog poo bags! How's your circadian rhythm this morning? Did you know plants have one too? Beatrice Fenton has been to meet Dr Antony Dodd at the University of Bristol who is examining how understanding these rhythms could improve crop yields in the future.
