Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought
From the Reverend Kate Bottley:
It probably won’t come as a huge shock Zoe when I tell you that I have a passion for all things sparkly. At vicar school, I had a cardigan so bejewelled with sequins that when the light came right through the chapel window I could turn morning prayer into something that looked like a 1970’s roller disco with me as a human glitter ball. And so, a few weeks ago as I wandered through the children’s department of a well-known store imagine my joy when the rails parted, a heavenly choir seemed to sing and there in all their glory a pair of glitter ankle boots, in my size, five quid in the sale, it was if it was mean to be.
My husband, a man not given to ostentatious shows of glamour, was slightly less enthusiastic, ‘When will you wear them?’ I turned and looked him square in the eye ‘Every. Single. Day.’ And do you know I have, even if it is just to take the bins out, my gorgeous glittery ankle boots haven’t really been off my feet since I bought them. The poet and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou once said, ‘Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.’ And there’s a passage in the bible that sort of reminds me of that, it says ‘You are the light of the world. No one lights a candle and puts it under a basket, but on a lampstand to give light to the house. Let your light shine before others.’
And while some days the world seems a very dark place indeed and no amount of glitter can help it to shine, I like to think that each and every one of us has a divine spark of light within that can make the gloom less gloomy. So whatever today brings, I’m going to let my light shine and I hope you all have a fabulously sparkly Friday. However - I did notice a few days ago Zoe, that the glitter on my boots is starting to wear off a little, leaving a trail of sparkly stuff in my wake. Not to worry - to make sure I had enough glittery gorgeousness to last me a little longer last week I went back to the shop and bought 2 more pairs…
