A senior SDLP politician says he's still not sure how he feels about a possible alliance with Fianna Fail. Confidential talks between the leadership of the two parties are now at an advanced stage. The former SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie says she now supports some form of partnership. But the local MLA, Mark H. Durkan, who's a former Environment Minister, says he remains uncertain.
Plans for a medical school at Ulster University's Magee campus could be on hold for as long as it takes Stormont to get back up and running. That's because a Department of Health review says Northern Ireland needs one hundred more medical students a year to ensure there are enough doctors for the future. But the department says it can't afford to pay for that without making cuts to other services - or take that kind of financial decision without a Minister.
