Rail passengers in Scotland have been offered extra compensation by ScotRail after apologising over the weekend for the "unacceptable" service. This follows months of complaints about cancellations, delays and overcrowded carriages on some routes. But the move has been branded a "gimmick" by critics who have stepped up calls for trains to be taken into public hands.
