West Belfast murder, high street vs. online, and PETA in call for end to "anti-animal" language
Horror at the school gates - horrific murder in west Belfast as man shot dead in front of school children in west Belfast.
Shot dead in front of school children. That was the terrible fate of a local man yesterday outside a school in west Belfast while he was waiting for his son. The police have called it a disgraceful murder and reckless act that could have also resulted in children being seriously injured or killed. Vinny got reaction from SDLP councillor Tim Attwood.
Also on the programme, there have been some dire warnings about the future of the High Street from the owner of Sports Direct and House of Fraser, Mike Ashley. He's been telling a committee of MPs that the internet is killing town centres and he called for a 20% tax on online sales. Would you support that? Or would you put the responsibility on the High Street itself - to evolve? Vinny got the views of Glyn Roberts from Retail NI and businessman Irwin Armstrong.
And - "words matter, and as our understanding of social justice evolves, our language evolves along with it" - the words of animal rights organisation - PETA. They want us to stop using anti-animal language phrases like "bring home bacon" or "take the bull by the horns" and replace them with "bring home the bagel" and "taking the flower by the thorns." Vinny spoke to John Carmody from Animal Rights Action Network and commentator Lembit Opik.
