Script

Good morning. An old Indian tale goes, there was a morose man. He was diseased, poor, and unable to work. But he was blessed with a very loving wife who worked to maintain them both.

The wife asked her husband why he was so despondent, reminding him that she took care of all his needs? The husband was reluctant to say, but his wife insisted. The husband said that he was anxious to visit Priya, the famous courtesan – the one who charged one hundred thousand diamonds for her company. The wife was saddened to hear this but she said that she would arrange this for him – a generous-hearted woman indeed.

She began to visit Priya’s house to clean and cook for her. Priya asked who she was and why she had started all this service for her, without pay. The wife explained her situation and the desire of her husband.

Priya was struck by the quality and commitment of this woman, even when her husband had made her life so difficult. Priya told the wife to bring her husband the next evening. The husband arrived and was greeted by Priya with a feast served in golden and iron bowls. She asked him to sample from each and asked which tasted better, to which the husband replied that they tasted the same. Priya then berated the husband saying that the pleasure he was looking for, whether with a poor or rich woman, also tastes the same, and she sent him back to his wife – a wise woman indeed.

Lord, I decorate my pleasures by seeking the best brands, the most expensive models, the most up to date versions, and the most beautiful presentations. But my relationship with loved ones can give me all that and more, while my relationship with you is the higher taste, for which we are all anxious. Hare Krishna
