Report by Royal College Psychiatrists in NI says prisoners here are being failed by the current system

The body also says there's evidence patients are being placed in solitary confinement.

A report by the Royal College Psychiatrists in Northern Ireland says prisoners here are being failed by the current system - which is not consistent with national or regional guidelines.

The body also says there is evidence mentally ill patients are being placed in solitary confinement, there has been a dramatic increase in prisoners requiring transfers to hospital and that there is a lack of adequate screening for mental ill health.

The South Eastern Health Trust, however, says the report is the opinion of a small number of clinicians who do not work directly with the Prison Healthcare Service here and that the information in it is largely inaccurate or out of date.

Also on the programme, is there a growing culture of anti-Irish sectarianism among some people in the UK? That's the claim from Republic of Ireland and Stoke City player James McClean. In the US Mid-term elections Democrats win back the House of Representatives in a setback for Donald Trump and the Democratic Unionist Party says that any legal advice given to the government on the Irish backstop should be made public.
