Duane Eddy
Duane Eddy shares his memories of the 1970s
Duane Eddy joins Johnnie to chat about his career in the 1970s, plus his UK tour this month.
Duane was born in New York in 1938 but moved to Arizona as a teenager. He began playing guitar when he was five years old and when he was sixteen, he formed his first duo with his friend, Jimmy Delbridge. The pair met the then radio disc jockey Lee Hazlewood, who produced their single, "Soda Fountain Girl" in 1955. Duane would go on to have a long history with Lee.
Eddy became known for his technique of playing lead on his guitar's bass strings to produce his signature "twangy" sound. In 1958, he had his first breakthrough hit, "Rebel 'Rouser", reaching number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It sold over one million copies, earning Eddy his first gold disc.
As well as his successful recording career, Eddy also made a name for himself in the movies in the 1960s too.
In the 1970s, he began producing records for the likes of Phil Everly and Waylon Jennings. He hit the top ten again in the UK in 1975 with hit songwriter Tony Macaulay and former founding member of The Seekers, Keith Potger - the record was, "Play Me Like You Play Your Guitar".
As well as Duane, you can also hear another track chosen by a listener for inclusion in 'Johnnie's Jukebox' plus Johnnie will take a look back at stories from 'This Week In Music' with the help of clips from the 成人快手 Archive.
