Head of NI civil service says he has 'deep concerns' about the impact of a no-deal Brexit.
"Deep concerns" about the impact of a no-deal Brexit. That's the warning from the head of the civil service in Northern Ireland. Speaking in Brussels yesterday David Sterling said some agri-food firms here could find it "impossible" to continue trading if they faced tariffs. Mr Sterling also spoke about the challenges of preparing for Brexit without having any Stormont ministers. He told diplomats in Brussels that NI's Brexit policy was effectively based on a two-page letter sent to the PM by the then First and Deputy First Ministers Arlene Foster and Martin McGuinness in August 2016. Just think about that. All we have to base our Brexit policy on is two pages of A 4 paper written over two years ago. Stephen spoke to Declan Billington - CEO of animal feed firm Thompson's and sits on the board of Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association - SDLP MLA Claire Hanna and TUV leader Jim Allister.
Also on the programme, 拢6 in, 60p a spirit, 60p a mixer. A cheap night out or a recipe for drunken disaster? The Belfast Telegraph reports this morning on how a Belfast nightclub has come under fire from city councillors concerned at mega-cheap booze prices aimed at students during Freshers' Week. Yesterday on the Nolan Show we reported on havoc in the Holylands student area in South Belfast, with drunken young people partying into the night. Stephen spoke to the nightclub's owner Patrick Fegan, director of Fourteen Belfast, the commentator and former pub owner Tina Calder, independent councillor Declan Boyle who represents the Holylands area in South Belfast and 19 year old Thomas Copeland who lives in South Belfast.
