Episode 2 of 4

Programme following nightshift workers in Wales, including factory workers, fish wholesalers and a man employed to milk cattle over the witching hour.

Wales has one of the highest rates of workers on nights anywhere in the UK, and the programme meets factory workers, fish wholesalers and a dairy man employed to milk cattle over the witching hour. They are the unsung heroes of the graveyard shift.

Kevin manages a ten-strong team of night workers who recycle clothing hangers for the UK's largest department stores. The Mainetti factory in Wrexham processes one billion plastic items each year and the nightshift team stand at a never-ending conveyor belt emptying boxes of hangers and sorting them into piles so that they can be sent back to shops and used again. Kevin has had his 60th birthday, but he enjoys the work and looking after the team - though he promises himself retirement and a plot of land on a Greek island very soon. Two of his team - Christiana and Tammy - have bonded during their long nightshifts and while away the hours gossiping about the boss and their favourite subjects. They too have dreams of escaping the nightshift - Christiana would love to open a coffee shop and Tammy an animal rescue centre.

Polish-born Marek works on his own overnight, milking 100 dairy cows. He loves the quiet, and although it's a mucky job, Marek is kind and loving toward the pedigree herd which is milked three times a day. He's very used to nightshifts having worked at nights in Wales and Poland. His final task is to leave a saucer of fresh milk to the farm's cat before he can retire to bed.
