Farming Today This Week: Succession

Sybil Ruscoe is at Tagmoor Farm in Gloucestershire to meet father and son Martin and James McCurragh and examine how they handled passing on the farm to the next generation.

Sybil Ruscoe is at Tagmoor Farm in Gloucestershire to meet Father and Son Martin and James McCurragh to find out how they've handled the transfer of the running of the farm from Martin to James. They talk candidly about the adoption of new ideas and farming practices, and the need for sound outside advice when making future plans. Martin explains that leaving the farmhouse was a wrench but that when the bad weather hit he soon appreciated his newer, warmer abode, and James talks about how for him a love of the countryside was at the core of his desire to keep this family farm going. There's also expert opinion from succession adviser Heather Wildman, and items looking at the difficulty of passing a farm onto triplets, the transfer of a Scottish Croft from Father to Daughter, and the decision by one Welsh farmer to pass her farm onto one of her employees.
