Cathy MacDonald talks to Peter Hain about his biography of friend Nelson Mandela and discusses gender identity in 21st-century Scotland.

Cathy talks to former Secretary Of State for Northern Ireland and anti-apartheid campaigner, Lord Peter Hain. Born to anti-apartheid activists with links to Nelson Mandela, Peter Hain grew up in South Africa. As a close friend of Mandela's, and ahead of the 100th anniversary of his birth, he's written a biography which offers unique insights into one of the world's most iconic statesmen.

As part our occasional series, Inspirations, children's author Vivian French talks about how a member of her family inspired her to pursue a career as a writer.

Despite more acceptance of the transgender community in recent years, for many it's still an issue fraught with anxiety, ignorance and misconceptions. Demand for gender identity services is at an all-time high in Scotland, for both adults and children. Cathy is joined by playwright and transwoman, Jo Clifford, and Dr Neil Thin, Senior Lecturer in Social and Political Science at Edinburgh University.

There's increasing concern that anti-Semitism may be on the rise again in Germany. There have been some high-profile incidents on the streets and in school playgrounds. Now the German government plans to send anti-bullying experts into selected schools to tackle anti-Semitism among children. Cathy talks to the 成人快手's Berlin Correspondent, Jenny Hill.
