Lynda's disappointed when Francesca Lockhart (the famous animal portrait artist) turns down her offer to open the fete and judge Pets' Party Pieces. Susan sees an opportunity for Neil, whom she sees as an eminent local businessman. However, Neil isn't keen, and escapes from the conversation by volunteering to help Will fix a perimeter fence. Susan "borrows" Neil's phone to call Justin - neither Neil not Lynda can say no if Justin has personally makes the recommendation.

Will's grateful for Neil's help mending the fence and for all the support he's been getting from the community - the kids have adapted well. But the house feels so empty once they're asleep. Alistair and Jazzer escape to The Bull, and Jazzer asks how Alistair's coping. Not well - even Jazzer thinks he's drinking too much.
