Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Evita with Sir Tim Rice!
Elaine is joined by Evita co-creator Sir Tim Rice for a very special interview to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original production.
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita, the winner of over 20 major awards, including two Oliviers and seven Tonys - is thought by many to be an outright musical masterclass.
This month it celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Set in Buenos Aires between 1934 and 1952, Evita follows the rise to power and untimely demise of Argentine political leader Eva Peron as her media-savvy personality and understanding of the common man's woes made her the darling of the masses, in spite of her lavish lifestyle.
Evita began as a rock opera concept album, created by Andrew and Tim in 1976. Tapes of it were sent to California, with the hope of persuading Broadway芒鈧琓Ms Hal Prince to direct the stage production.
Hal duly came on board - and two years later, the show opened in the West End.
The date was June the 21st 1978.
The star of the show was Elaine Paige.
And the man who came up with the whole idea Sir Tim Rice, joins Elaine this afternoon to reminisce about Evita's evolution and glittering history, 40 years to the week since their stars aligned.
