Chris is joined by perfect pop princess Kylie Minogue, where he reveals she will be taking to the stage at this years Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park and she performs live in the studio! Chris, this week, desperate to see the latest franchise blockbuster movie and knowing that my teenagers had already been without me, I concluded that there was only one thing for it, to go off to the pictures on my own. And I decided that if I was going to go Solo to Solo, I would make the most of it and turn the whole thing into a bit of a treat. It felt decidedly decadent to sit in the dark on a beautiful sunny day, a big bucket of popcorn in my lap with no intention to share and to top it all off I went in my best elasticated waist, comfy of comfiest pyjamas. Living the dream!

听

You might have expected me to feel a tinge of guilt, not so, because as I sat there in the darkness in my pjs, the words of Jesus echoed in my ears 鈥楲ove your neighbour as you love yourself鈥�, the so called 鈥榞olden rule鈥� important not only of my faith but of so many other faiths and cultures too. It鈥檚 mostly the first part of that commandment that gets the attention, you know the 鈥榣ove other people鈥� bit but it struck me that the second half is pretty important too. If I鈥檓 expected to love others then perhaps it鈥檚 a good idea for me to try and love myself, not an excuse for blindly ignoring my faults, which are many, or a narcissistic joyride, but seeing that I鈥檓 worthy of love and taking time to be kind and to pay heed to my wellbeing, mind, body and spirit, it鈥檚 not selfish, it鈥檚 self care and equips me to better care for others.

听

And when I got home to helping my kids with their homework, writing a sermon and a tricky phonecall to a friend having a tough time, I felt better rested, reenergised and a little bit better equipped to help those who needed it. 听So whether it鈥檚 laughing at Ullman, a passion for Poldark, or moshing to Marr or Minogue, a little bit of what you fancy does you good, after all if you can鈥檛 love yourself, how on earth can you love somebody else?

听

But as Aiden knows 鈥� what you wear 鈥� or don鈥檛 wear can attract attention.听 Maybe for my next cinema trip I鈥檒l just wear my slippers.
