Mother of young epileptic boy Billy Caldwell in desperate plea to authorities to grant access to medicinal cannabis
Mother of young epileptic boy Billy Caldwell in desperate plea to authorities to grant access to medicinal cannabis. Edited since transmission.
Last year, Billy Caldwell became the first person to receive an NHS prescription for medical marijuana in the UK. It was a NI doctor who wrote that prescription. Billy's mother Charlotte says the cannabis oil virtually stopped her son having up to 100 seizures a day. Cannabis oil is not tested or approved to be used in the UK for Billy's condition. Therefore, the Department of Health in Northern Ireland advised the doctor who had been writing the prescription in NI to stop doing so. So where does that leave Billy? His mother says she thinks he will die and she is pleading with the authorities to let her son get the cannabis oil. Stephen has been speaking to Charlotte and she began by telling him how Billy has been. Stephen got reaction from GP Dr George O'Neill, Alliance MLA Paula Bradshaw and SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan.
All that and more on the biggest show in the country.
